The project concerns an irrigation pumping system powered by a hybrid solar energy plant, with water abstraction from the Segura River and pumping to elevated locations. The project stands out for its high technical complexity, resulting both from the significant elevation head to be overcome and from the characteristics of the extracted water, which contains considerable amounts of sand and abrasive materials.

For this reason, particular attention was paid to the selection of materials and construction solutions, including the use of anti-erosion bronze impellers, capable of ensuring wear resistance, greater reliability, and extended equipment service life.

Supply

The installation includes:

3 vertical shaft pumps, designed to provide the pressure required for pumping and distributing water throughout the entire network.
Total installed power: approximately 750 kW (about 250 kW per motor).
Total operating flow rate: 3,150 m³/h.
Total dynamic head: 63 m.w.c. (meters of water column).
Installed photovoltaic power: 1.6 MW.

BENEFITS ACHIEVED

The system was designed to ensure efficient and continuous operation even under demanding operating conditions. Integration with a hybrid solar power system significantly reduces grid energy consumption, improving both the economic and environmental sustainability of the project.

The use of vertical pumps also provides:

Effective direct water abstraction from the river, even with fluctuating water levels.
Greater hydraulic stability.
Better management of the high pumping heads required.

The selection of high-efficiency components, including IE3 motors and wear-resistant materials, contributes to optimizing operating costs while minimizing maintenance requirements.
