Surface Water Abstraction and Irrigation Reservoir Filling
The project involves the abstraction of surface water and the subsequent filling of an irrigation reservoir, characterized by a high level of technical complexity. The main challenge was ensuring perfect synchronization between two pumping stations, while maintaining a delicate balance between the maximum allowable pressures of the different pipelines and the increased flow rate required by the system.
To meet these requirements, a highly efficient and reliable pumping solution was implemented, based on the following equipment:
- P9C 6 24 2B vertical pump, equipped with an electric drive head, 2-pole B5 configuration, 40 HP power rating, 400/690 V power supply, and a high-efficiency IE3 motor.
- PM100/4B horizontal pump, installed on a baseplate and equipped with a 220 HP 2-pole B3 motor, 400/690 V power supply, and IE4 efficiency class, ideal for high-pressure, high-flow applications.
BENEFITS ACHIEVED
The solution developed consists of a series pumping system arranged across two pumping stations, integrating two new pumping units with the existing installations. This configuration enables optimal pressure distribution along the pipeline while ensuring greater operational reliability.
Pumping Station 1 (P.S.1)
The long-shaft Series P vertical pumps abstract water from the Segre River. The water is lifted and conveyed to the second pumping station, located approximately 3 km away, providing an efficient and controlled first-stage boost.
Pumping Station 2 (P.S.2)
The high-pressure multistage Series PM horizontal pumps complete the process, ensuring the filling of the irrigation reservoir. Thanks to their capability to generate high pressures, these pumps guarantee proper water transfer even in the presence of significant elevation differences and head losses.
This approach makes it possible to:
- Optimize pressure management throughout the network, preventing pipeline overload.
- Increase the overall system flow rate in a safe and controlled manner.
- Improve energy efficiency through the use of high-efficiency IE3 and IE4 motors.
- Ensure operational continuity and management flexibility.
The entire installation was designed to provide maximum reliability, durability, and high performance, contributing to the efficient and sustainable management of water resources for irrigation purposes.
